Bvlgari is the Diamond of our Eyes

On the busy intersection of Wilshire and Rodeo amidst the mix of celebrities, tourists and cars that bustle by, is the gem of a store, Bvlgari. This mix of passing pedestrians and automotives seem to have polished an architectural diamond in the rough into a multi-dimensional gem in the form of this brilliantly sparkling store. When we were given the opportunity to get a tour of this Los Angeles cultural landmark, intimidation was a word that came to our mind. These diamonds weren’t just diamonds, they were the diamonds that are currently being draped across a naked Julianne Moore and two baby lion cubs in Bvlgari’s current advertising campaign. We’ve seen those pictures, and we do not look like in the nude, and we would not be looking like a red-haired seductress with lions lying across our privates. Intimidation indeed.

But when we stepped inside the store we were instantly at ease in the warmth of arcing blonde wood that enveloped us. The curves in the display cases seem to set in motion that swooping emotion every girl feels in the pit of her stomach when her eyes scan over an expanse of diamonds. The play between the linear and the curvaceous within the architecture seems to mirror the crisp cuts found within a spherical diamond. We happily ogled the diamonds, reclined on the velour sofa, and were even offered water while we waited.

The Bvlgari store is composed of three floors, with a private (fully stocked) bar taking up the upper level, looking over aforementioned intersection. Who doesn’t want a glass of champagne when seated in the lap of luxury? We were happily surprised by the amount of other luxury goods Bvlgari carries, such as handbags, sunglasses, and ties. A trip up to level two met us with all of the above.

Bvlgari is directly associated with luxury, but the best news yet is that you can have a piece of luxury for a fraction of the price with their popular, less expensive yet meticulously designed line, B Zero. Women spend the same amount on shoes these days that they could spend on a Bvlgari ring from B Zero. Even a necklace, or key chain is yours for the taking, with Bvlgari’s name and trademark clean edges stamped across the pieces. B Zero reminds us of the trademark line from that other jewelry store, the one with the robin’s egg blue colored boxes. Those boxes used to drive our jewelry obessions, but now we walk in Manolo’s and have decided our jewelry needs to mirror or shoes, naturally.

Roberto Cavalli is the Cream of Our Crop

The life and energy that pulsates through Roberto Cavalli’s Beverly Hills store is immediately noticeable upon entry. The sales staff buzzes between their clients, mildly resembling honeybees, pollinating the world of fashion with Cavalli’s flamboyant prints. These printed fabrics seem to be vibrating off the racks, begging to be draped and fitted over ones body and then given a test drive with cocktails on a yacht, followed by a night of dancing at the local discothèque. Cavalli’s clothes command all the attention when set up against the monochromatic, sleek, high-gloss interior design scheme of the store.

Roberto Cavalli’s clothes showcase the designer’s unstoppable influence in the fashion world. Originally a textile student at the Art Institute in Florence, Italy, it was a pattern of flowers designed by Cavalli that caught the eye of an Italian hosiery factory that paved his path towards the fashion world.

Cavalli’s path was then cemented in stone when he developed and patented a revolutionary printing procedure for leather fabrics. This path was then gilded in gold when he sent sandblasted jeans down the runway and started a fashion frenzy that could be seen from Paris to Kentucky. Now his name adorns commodities from Just Cavalli Sunglasses to Roberto Cavalli Vodka, which is appropriately served in his newly opened nightclub– an apt venture for the man who dresses the majority of the women (and men) found in the discothèques.

Decadent would be an understatement when describing Cavalli’s overall design theme. If Cavalli’s brand was a pie, it would have a slice of decadence, with a helping of glitz and gold, a dollop of leopard, and a heavy dose of glam rock as the cherry on top. Sex appeal in the form of whip cream obviously oozes from Cavalli’s pie of fashion, and all the club girls from the French Riviera to Hollywood happily ask for seconds.

Cavalli’s Beverly Hills store is a necessity for all women to stock up on slenderizing, leopard print frocks, exquisite caftans and those perfect white pants, before the summer is in full swing. The energy within the store is palpable and contagious, so come prepared to be craving a Mai-Tai on a yacht in Saint Tropez when you leave.

A yacht in Saint Tropez might be a far-fetched dream for some, but when you are in a Cavalli dress, you can fudge the rest.

Givenchy’s embroidered metal chain evening bag with a black handle. We found it at Barneys New York in Beverly Hills for $3,670.00.  It’s worth the splurge as it updates any look to the current season.  Ahhh, Givenchy – if our eyes could squirt out hearts, they would for this glorious handbag.  Bravo!

My Belated Valentine…

Valentine’s Day got away from us (we were having too much fun in the bedroom and completely forgot it was a workday … teehee) and here’s the post that was supposed to go up Friday.  Enjoy!

Let’s be honest, the rarity of finding a heterosexual male that enjoys shopping is the Holy Grail for all women. Yes, he can fake it till he makes it, but true enthusiasm when scouring the racks item by item is as hard to come by as those elusive black-patent-Mary-Jane Manolo Blahnik’s. The exception to this rule is the second week in February, when the mission at hand is lingerie. We’ve learned through trial and error that if you treat shopping like a covert operation involving a plan of attack and an ultimate prize, sometimes a man will mistake it for a video game, and violà, all hands are on deck— and potentially on you at the end of the night.

Los Angeles has a plethora of lingerie stores with a diversity that perfectly reflects the scope of inhabitants under these perpetually blue skies. For the tongue in cheek couples, there is the ever-so-famous and ever-so-amusing Trashy Lingerie. Because they believe in Halloween year round, you can always find that ‘Sailor Jerry’ outfit with the built in push up bra and missing mid-section. Disclaimer: do not attempt to wear when actually sailing, keep this in the bedroom, and throw on those topsiders when hoisting the sail and shouting starboard. Cupid has thrown up on this store, as they are cashing in on Valentine’s Day, but who can blame them, with outfits that are both simultaneously fun and funny, that remind us of the pleasure of laughter in the bedroom.

If Dita von Teese is your style icon, than Agent Provocateur is your heaven. Although steep on price, it is a worthy indulgence, for both you and your man, as your sexual self-confidence immediately skyrockets when donning this opulent yet undeniably sexy apparel. The corset wearing sales staff makes shopping a breeze without a hint of blushing as you recline on the ox-blood red velvet couches. Agent Provocateur has helped changed the perception of a burlesque show from a lowbrow form of entertainment, into something that could actually pass as a date night. Seriously, study the movements of those performers; this clearly isn’t their first rodeo.

If you scoff at the notion of buying a ridiculously expensive piece of lace, with the intention of it being stripped off of you, then Only Hearts is your Valentine’s Day headquarters. Relaxed sexy seems to be their motto, as their Valentine’s selections consist of the softest boy-cut underwear with dainty hearts, and matching tanks. When they do venture into lace, it is done effortlessly, allowing you to wear it year round. While we all love the idea of a day dedicated to love and sex, but sometimes the sexiest moments consist of an element of surprise, and these wearable red lace bras allow you to do just that— buy it now, catch him off guard later.

Kiki De Montparnasse is, well, Kiki De Montparnasse. Lingerie is the foreplay for this sexual emporium. Their lingerie is divided amongst three lines according to personality of the piece and person wearing it– boudoir, muse, and ingénue. Honestly, who doesn’t want to be somebody’s muse? The bedroom is clearly a sanctuary in their eyes and they treat it as such, with offerings such as silk bed linens to five hundred dollar vibrators. He will never complain about seeing you come home with a shopping bag from this store despite the dent it leaves in your wallet.

Which store do we prefer? Well, only Mr. Pillow-Talk needs to know that.
